New Phase of STAQ Awarded

July 1, 2024

In 2023, the STAQ program received a new multiyear award to continue the work on demonstrating quantum advantage on quantum computing machines based on ion traps. Christopher Monroe will lead this new phase, with Co-PIs Ken Brown and Jungsang Kim. Notably, Brown led the initial 4 year program that established STAQ. Beyond building the initial generations of the full-stack machine, the collaboration produced over 140 publications, created a popular QISE summer school for hundreds of undergrads and graduate students, mentored countless young and early career scientists, and patented many ideas and techniques. The current team includes faculty from Duke University (Lead), Harvard University, University of Maryland, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, North Carolina State University, Tufts University, University of Chicago, University of New Mexico. During the first year the team has already published over 20 papers.
